Graduate Highlight - Jordan Kretz

What could you be prepared to do with a veterinary technician associate degree? Provide nursing care, keep records, collect samples, and educate clients under a veterinarian's supervision, for starters. Jordan Kretz, recent Stautzenberger College graduate, quickly found employment with this degree doing what she loves at the place she did her hands-on study (called an externship).

Ms. Kretz chose to pursue her associate degree at the Maumee campus because she “fell in love with the small animal program.” Although our program does expose students to large animals and research information as well, the primary focus is on work in small animal clinic settings. Needless to say, Ms. Kretz felt right at home in the program she had chosen and flourished in her classes. She graduated in December of 2018, well-prepared for her current career at Maumee Bay Veterinary Hospital.

Situated in Oregon, Ohio, the Maumee Bay Veterinary Hospital offers a wide range of services including “emergency care,” “dietary counseling,” “blood pressure screening,” “anesthesia,” “flea and tick control,” and much more (Services, 2019). Ms. Kretz found employment at the hospital after completing her externship there. Many of our students are offered employment with our externship partners. Those students who wish to seek employment elsewhere are aided by our career services department until they find the perfect fit for them. It is our goal to ensure that students gain not only a degree but also a new job to kickstart their new paths in life.

We hope Ms. Kretz's story inspired you.
