Graduate Highlight - Magdalena Knisley
On April 05, 2019

We've all heard that it's important to continually grow and learn. Still, some adults shy away from returning to school. Juggling other responsibilities with homework may seem difficult enough, but the idea of continuing education without any friends intimidates many people even more. However, attending class becomes more important than ever when the material covers knowledge and skills you could use daily in your career. Realizing this, Magdalena Knisley stepped outside her comfort zone to become a veterinary technician.

Ms. Knisley enrolled in the veterinary technician program at Stautzenberger College's Maumee Campus because she had always wanted a career helping animals. “It has been a dream since I was a kid!” Ms. Knisley says. At first, she struggled with settling into an unfamiliar school where she did not know anyone. “It was a challenge not having my friends by my side when I went to school full-time, but I did have a great support system at school and home,” says Ms. Knisley. Instructor Stacy Rickard played a crucial role in helping Ms. Knisley acclimate to her new surroundings and gain confidence to succeed academically. “She pushed and pushed me to not give up,” Ms. Knisley recounts. “She would take the time to help me understand the material I could not figure out to save my life.”

Ms. Knisley completed her externship at West Toledo Animal Hospital. After graduating in December of 2018, she was hired there as well. “I love it there,” she says. “They made me feel so welcomed and are teaching me along the way.” Like many of our graduates, she is ecstatic to be employed by her former externship site and live out the career she has always imagined.

We hope Ms. Knisley's story inspired you.
