What you Learn in Surgical Technology
Surgical Tech is a full Associate’s program, so while you learn specialized knowledge about surgical procedures, you also learn typical general education requirements like American Government, Life Science, and Professional Success. Your specialized knowledge comes from classes like Anatomy and Physiology, Introduction and Fundamentals of Surgical Technology, and Operating Room Skills and Case Management. In these classes you will learn things like:
- A look at the government from the local to federal levels
- A general knowledge of Biological functions
- An overview of ethics, dress and other issues facing professionals today
- An in-depth study of the body cells, tissues, organs and systems
- Basics of surgery including history of the profession, communication and teamwork, and a focus on pre-, post- and intra-operative procedures
