We Proudly Present Surgical Technician Graduate Amanda Sours
On June 29, 2022

Amanda Sours is not your typical beginning student.  A mother of three, she chose to return to school to make a change in her life for herself and her children.  It was important to her to be a role model to her children - showing them that even though she worked full-time, she was able to make time for things that mattered.  She also thanks her instructors Mrs. Miller and Mrs. Giovanolli for the inspiration they gave through the program and Mrs. Hermiller for building her confidence so she could finish the program strong.

What you Learn in our Surgical Technology Program

Surgical Tech is a full Associate’s program, so while you learn specialized knowledge about surgical procedures, you also learn typical general education requirements like Written Communication and Life Science.  Classes you will take include important science classes like two courses in Anatomy and Physiology, three classes in Surgical Procedures and Techniques, and classes in Operating Room Skills and Case management. You will also have over 70 hours of exam preparation classes, and at least 510 hours spent in your externship providing you hands-on real-world experience.  In these classes you will learn:

  • Cellular structures to organ level functions and systems of the body
  • Instruction on skills before, during and after operations and skills such as First Aid and CPR
  • Overview of general operating room skills and deeper discussion of multiple specialities and the specific procedures needed for each specialty
