We Proudly Present Associate of Applied Science in Surgical Technology Graduate Bionca Hernandez
On January 27, 2022

Bionca Hernandez has always known she wanted to be in the medical field - particularly in surgery.  She owes that inspiration to an old softball coach.  She has let nothing stop her from accomplishing this goal - including the news that she was going to become a mom during her externship!

She also had words of praise and thanks for her teacher, Theresa Miller.  She couldn’t stop saying how helpful she was and how she made all of her students feel comfortable asking questions.

What you Learn in our Surgical Technology Associate’s Program

Surgical Technicians work mostly in the operating room.  They can work on general surgeries, or they can become specialized technicians and work in fields like cardiovascular, plastic, or ortho surgery.  You can even be specialized in organ transplant!  It all starts with the classes you take.  Because Surgical Technology is an Associates program, you will take specialized courses like Anatomy and Physiology and several classes focusing on Surgical Procedures and Techniques.  You will also take general education courses like Introduction to Psychology, Life Sciences, and Professional Success Strategies.  In these courses, you will learn things like:

  • A general knowledge of biological science
  • A focus on work, professional skills and ethics
  • An in-depth study of the structure and function of the organs of the human body
