Graduate Highlight - Lauri Maestas - Veterinary Technician
Could you truly say that you will enjoy your current job for your entire life? Stautzenberger College graduate Lauri Maestas could. Once she found her career calling, she followed it wholeheartedly and never looked back.
“A close family friend told me about the vet med field and how she could really see me pursuing that as a career,” Ms. Maestas explains. “I looked into it, and I am lucky to have found something I'll do for the rest of my life.”
Ms. Maestas completed courses such as Microbiology, Veterinary Office Management, Animal Clinical Procedures, Radiology, Principles of Surgery, and more. She credits her instructors as being major sources of inspiration whenever she found the material challenging. “Alexis Turnbull and Amy Philo-Dimasso both encouraged me so much. Thanks to them, I want to be a vet tech that goes above and beyond for my clients and patients.”
While Ms. Maestas was enrolled at Stautzenberger, she also learned to navigate the challenges of living independently. “Taking classes four days a week and working five days a week for two years straight was rough but worth every bit,” she says. She saw the value of her hard work not only when she graduated with her associate degree but also when she found employment. “I completed my externship at Lakeshore Veterinary Hospital and they offered me a job,” she says.
