“I went back to Stautzenberger because I remembered the professors and how challenging it was. I knew what I was signing up for. It wasn’t easy, but I wanted it. For me, it was never too late.”

Natasha is a licensed practical nurse in Toledo, Ohio … and someone who trusted Stautzenberger College not once, but twice. More than two decades ago, she graduated from the medical billing program. When it came time to return to school years later, Stautzenberger was her first choice?—and the one she recommended to her son’s girlfriend, who enrolled alongside her. “I already knew it was a good school,” Natasha says. “I trusted it.”

Natasha returned  with a full life behind her. Her children were 23 and 16, and she was finally able to focus on something she’d put off for years. She enrolled in the Practical Nursing program, determined to see it through. After 14 months of intense coursework, emotional moments, and real-life obstacles, she gained the confidence that comes from being prepared.

“I went back to Stautzenberger because I remembered the professors and how challenging it was…. It wasn’t easy, but I wanted it. For me, it was never too late.  You’re going to get out what you put into it. For 14 months, I had a book in my hand at all times. The instructors were there every step of the way to help. I had one instructor, Miss Jacobs who I connected with and who challenged me to think beyond the textbook.

One thing that really stuck with me was learning how one simple mistake can cost somebody their life. That changed how I approach everything. I double-check. I check again. I don’t want to be responsible for someone’s life because I rushed.”

School gives you the foundation, but being in the field is where it really comes together. The guidance, encouragement and real-life clinical experience helped shape me into the nurse I am today. “I’m very proud. My kids are proud of me, and that means everything. I showed them that I can do it, and that they can do anything if they put their mind to it…I’m proud to call myself a graduate.”
