In the heart of every veterinary practice that cares for horses, there lies the unsung hero of equine health – the Horse Vet Tech. The role of a veterinary technician specializing in equine care has undergone significant transformations, merging traditional practices with cutting-edge technology. Today, we’re exploring the ins and outs of becoming a Horse Vet Tech, how the role has evolved, and why the Stautzenberger College Vet Tech Program stands out as a beacon for aspiring vet tech students.

We defend those who can’t speak for themselves. Pets can be difficult to work with at times, but they deserve the same level of compassion and care that human patients receive. Communicating with the pet owner, relying on what I’ve learned and experienced, and being attentive to a pet’s non-verbal cues are vital to my occupation. My name is Nia, and I’m proud to be a veterinary technician.

Everywhere I go, I meet people who inspire me. But when I stop and think about the everyday heroes in my life, so many of them are veterinary technicians.

As I’m texting with one of my techs about a sick shelter cat, it hits me—these are some of the bravest, kindest, hardest-working (and most underappreciated) people on the planet. Names have been changed to protect the awesome—but if you guess who I’m talking about from the stories, you win bragging rights.
