We Proudly Present Stautzenberger College Graduate Brooke Davis
On August 12, 2021

“Stautzenberger gave me my start.” When Brooke Davis enrolled at Stautzenberger College, she was a single mom and facing several obstacles in her personal life. However, pursuing a new career helped her move forward. Growing up, Brooke worked on her grandparents' neighbor's farm during the weekends and summer. “She taught me so much and was firm on the importance of education,” says Brooke. This family friend inspired Brooke to choose a career in animal welfare business administration. Although studying was not always easy for Brooke, she persevered. “While getting my degree, I worked full time—and sometimes overtime—at a vet office while raising a newborn,” she recalls. We are extremely proud of Brooke for earning her associate degree. “Now, I am a mother of two pursuing my bachelor's with a fresh start,” she says proudly.

What You Learn in an Animal Welfare Business Administration AAS Program

Our career programs are designed to provide students with relevant, in-demand skills. Our Associate of Applied Science degree programs go beyond by allowing students to complete an advanced level of course work in their chosen field and develop general education skill sets in areas such as English, history, and math. For each graduate of a program, we highlight three different courses. During the program, Brooke took courses such as: Principles of Animal Welfare Administration and Management, Animal Welfare Public Relations and Fundraising, and Building Effective Teams in an Animal Welfare Setting.

In these courses, she learned about:

  • Working with a board of directors, negotiating working and professional contracts, setting goals, planning budgets, accounting, developing policies, and evaluating organizational structures as well as the financial policies and procedures of nonprofit and governmental agencies
  • Best practices in principles and methods for organizational services and programs, public relations techniques, effective fundraising methods, clear communication of goals, statistical analysis and reporting, and organizational networking strategies
  • Forming, developing, and leading different kinds of teams; dealing with team dysfunctions; diagnosing team strengths and weaknesses; conducting team building sessions; and observing and intervening to facilitate team interaction

In addition to animal welfare-specific subjects, Brooke completed courses such as Introduction to Psychology and History of American Government to fulfill associate degree requirements.
