Tired of the same old routine? Have you been working the same job day after day with no career advancement in sight? Many of us struggle to pay the bills and never have time to think about what profession we would actually enjoy. Emily Stout was living this way as well until she decided to make a change.

“I was tired of looking for any old job at factories, gas stations, and restaurants,” says Ms. Stout. “I wanted a career, and I especially wanted something I could be proud of doing.” Therefore, she enrolled in the medical laboratory technician program at Stautzenberger College. Although continuing her education seemed daunting at the time, Ms. Stout was inspired by her instructors at Maumee Campus. “Amanda LaPointe was amazing. I don't know if I could have made it through some of the classes without her,” she says.

Although Ms. Stout was doing well academically, she did face the challenge of balancing school with motherhood. “Throughout my two years in school, I had a two-year-old. It was hard saying 'no' to playing with him at times because I had homework or had to study,” she recalls. However, putting in the hard work paid off for not only herself but also her family. “I started my externship at CHWC, Community Hospital and Medical Center of Bryan, Ohio, in July and was hired in by the end of October!” Ms. Stout says proudly.

In November of 2018, Ms. Stout graduated from Stautzenberger College, already employed. She had not only a career she could take pride in but also more free time to cherish her son. “Now that I'm done with school with a great job, I can play and take him wherever he wants. We are both very happy now. This was for him more than me,” she says. “Graduating college has completely changed my life!”
