Maumee Meet Our Instructor - Annette Martin MSN, RN
On March 09, 2021

Imagine going grocery shopping and running into a nurse you taught 20 years ago. For Annette Martin MSN, RN, this is a regular occurrence. When Annette began her nursing career, she had no idea how many lives she would impact in the decades to come.

Annette has over 38 years of experience as a registered nurse. In 1982, she earned her RN diploma at St. Vincent Hospital School of Nursing in Toledo, Ohio. While working as a staff nurse in a local hospital, Annette returned to school. In 1988, she earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from Lourdes College in Sylvania, Ohio. As she continued working in medical surgical and step-down units as a staff nurse, Annette realized how much she loved educating patients. When an RN school of nursing asked her to be a preceptor to a student nurse, Annette discovered her passion for student nursing education.

From there, Annette's career as an instructor flourished. She started as a part-time instructor at her alma mater, worked her way up to lab instructor, and began teaching theory in the classroom. In 1994, she graduated with her Master of Science in Nursing degree from The Medical College of Ohio in Toledo. Annette taught diploma and associate RN programs at various area schools before becoming a practical nursing program director in 2001. She worked in this capacity for 15 years, offering registered nurses their first experiences with teaching student nurses.

In 2017, Annette became the program chair for our practical nursing program. Now, she also leads the practical nursing program for Stautzenberger College's other campus in Brecksville. Annette's joy comes from seeing nervous students blossom into strong, independent, and confident graduates who go on to become licensed practical nurses.

Although much of her current work consists of administrative duties and compliance policies, Annette still enjoys teaching. Frequently, she is greeted by her former students in the community. One of her student nurses even joined Maumee Campus as a clinical instructor!

Since our instructors have worked in their field for years, their teachings incorporate real-life examples, making it easier to apply your new knowledge in the real-world setting.
