Is it Time for You to Return to School
On May 04, 2018

I went to Stautzenberger College for Medical Assisting.
Soon, I fell behind on homework. I rushed in and out of classes to get home so I could take care of my family. Then my babysitter quit. That was the final straw. I stopped attending school.

Instead of reaching out to the kind staff at SC, I continued to let myself get overwhelmed. My disorganization grew worse until I just gave up.

For two months, I sat at home. I was back at my old dead-end job.
Why didn’t I finish school?
Was I ever going to turn my life around?
My classmates would graduate without me.

One day, I got a call from Britney.
She was so nice and understanding. She listened to me.
I mean, really listened.

Together, we wrote down everything preventing me from returning to school:
1. No babysitter
2. Couldn’t keep up with the schoolwork
3. Needed support

One at a time, we worked them out. Britney showed me what babysitting services were available.
She also identified people who could help me academically. I didn’t even know they had tutors and study groups at SC. As for support, she introduced me to Bria. What a lifesaver! Bria cares about my progress both in school and as an individual. I made a commitment to stop by her office every day for two weeks, so if something else did come up, I wouldn’t quit again.

What a difference. It worked.
About a month later, I did need help solving another problem. We got a new manager at my night job, and he wanted me to rotate during the day when I was supposed to be in school.
This time, I decided to confront the issue. At my request, Bria wrote letters to my boss….and he agreed to let me keep my schedule!

Now I’m getting ready to graduate and start my new career at ProMedica. I loved receiving hands-on training there for my externship, and they were glad to have me as an employee!
