Practical Nursing

The mission of the Practical Nursing Program (PN Program) at Stautzenberger College is to provide a quality education while supporting the mission of Stautzenberger College. The philosophy and conceptual framework of the PN program, with an emphasis on ethics and respect for the medical profession, will train students to provide a valuable service to the community, while guiding student advancement through practical application, clinical skills, critical thinking and continued learning. The program will maintain the highest standards possible to demonstrate commitment to the program’s conceptual framework of holistic health principles; promotion of health and prevention of illness through the life span; and, the science of caring and safety.
A minimum grade of “C” in all NON-NUR courses is required and a minimum grade of “B” in all NUR courses is required to graduate from this program.
Program-specific Objectives:
The core knowledge obtained in this curriculum is viewed as a basis for beginning practice in the nursing field. It is stressed to the student that as a member of a very dynamic profession, accountability for current knowledge is ever present. A continuous process of learning is emphasized because of constant changes within the study of the science of nursing.
The Practical Nursing Program is designed to provide instructional information to accomplish the following objectives:
- Function as a competent practical nurse in diversified health care settings utilizing the nursing process as a methodology for practice
- Participate as accountable, responsible member of the health care team
- Demonstrate respect for all human beings
- Utilize a holistic framework in nursing care throughout the life span
- Achieve a precision level in biological, physical, psychosocial and nursing sciences
- Achieve a competent level of clinical judgment
- Apply knowledge, judgment and skill to safety and accurately administer medicals
- Perform all nursing functions within safe, legal and ethical parameters
- Contribute to the wellness of individuals, families, and communities
- Develop passion for life-long learning and ability for critical thinking that enables thriving in a changing, complex society within our nursing community
- Qualify to take Licensure Examination
The normal time to complete this program for a full-time student is 18 months.
The Practical Nursing program at Stautzenberger College is approved by the Ohio Board of Nursing.
