Eighth Annual Wiener Dog Nationals

Posted on

The Eighth Annual Stautzenberger College Wiener Dog Nationals sponsored by Dachshund Delights, Karnik Pet Lodges, Karnik Memorial Garden and Black Swamp Custom Printing took place at a sunny and warm Pacesetter Park this past weekend. The competition was fierce, but by the end of the day two first-time champions were crowned.

Carl Edwards (the dog, not the professional race car driver) topped the competition in the Frankfurter division (dog under 13 lbs.) making a clean sweep of the day by placing first in each race he ran, including the King of Wieners race that pits the winner of the Frankfurters against the Bratwurst (dogs 13 lbs. and heavier) champion. Finishing in second in the Frankfurters was Dasher from Oregon, Ohio. Paisley posted a third place finish.

In the beefy Bratwursts, Quincy was top dog after a bit of a slow start. Quincy finished second in the first heat, but managed to place first the rest of the day. Roxie finished second overall with Lambeau slipping one spot from last year’s races to wind up third.

The top three dogs in each division received trophies and the first place winners also received a Hug-A-Dog harness from race sponsor Dachshund Delights.

All proceeds from this event benefit the Dachshund Rescue of North America. Not only does this event provide the community with some family fun, it gives Stautzenberger College veterinary technician students an opportunity to earn some volunteer hours which are required for their degree.
