2007 FOURTH ANNUAL WIENER DOG NATIONALS RESULTS Once again the highlight
of the Dog Days of September was the Fourth Annual Wiener Dog Nationals
with nearly 100 dogs competing. There was a wide range of skill levels
among the dachshunds with some darting straight to the finish line
with blazing speed and others leisurely strolling down the side of
the arena checking out all of the fans, unsure what all of the fuss
was about.
In
the Franfurter division (under 13 pounds) the 2005 Champion and
finalist in 2006 was upset in the first round. Ringer Ray, in possibly
his last Wiener Dog Nationals, was upset by Baron Von Trapp who was
a finalist in the Bratwurst division (dogs 13 pounds and up) last
year and lost some weight to compete with the Frankfurters this year.
Defending Frankfurter Champion Patches made it to the semi finals,
but was knocked out from being
able to defend the title by Lilly. Blitzen from Swanton,
Ohio smoked the competition in the finals to become the Fourth
Annual Wiener Dog Nationals Frankfurter Champion. Lilly
from Perrysburg, Ohio was runner up and Baron Von Trapp also
of Perrysburg, Ohio took third. Last year's runner up, Pepper,
finished fourth.
Defending Bratwurst
Champion Chooey made it to the finals to defend the title, but the
2005 Champion was back in top form to pull off the upset. Scout from
Toledo, Ohio was very vocal throughout the competition and the determination
could be seen in his eyes as he became the Fourth Annual Wiener Dog
Nationals Bratwurst Champion. Sammy from Woodville, Ohio finished just
ahead of Chooey for second and Princess out of Holland, Ohio was fourth.
Winners were presented
with trophies and Hug-A-Dog Harnesses courtesy of Dachshund Delights.
Proceeds from the event benefitted the Dachshund Rescue of North America.
